Squadron 42 is a lot harder to estimate because it's development needs are hidden. That would go well with true development having started more in 2014, giving the game a 7-8 year true development time. Because of the constant stability polishing they might not have as hard of a time bringing all the features together that cause most games to be delayed a year or two. The point being that we could hit beta by 2020 where even if new content comes it's going to be like a full release for many games, think later stage early access. However keep in mind the game has to remain stable for us the whole time which is usually done in early beta not alpha. Making all the initial content then the second is polishing that content.Ģ018 has a lot of content and difficult to implement technology. Normal games can be in a rougher state for longer before they're given for testing and even then things don't have to work until the programming team says they're supposed to. But I am still hopeful! But compromises are going to have to be made, and CIG is going to have to start saying, okay this is good enough, and no, we aren’t going to add that for release.Ĭouple things. There aren’t enough people who are willing to spend hundreds more on ships. They will run out of money long before the PU ever releases. And the total cost for a company like CIG per year per employee has to be more than $100,000 on average. If 450 people made $100,000 a year for 5 years that costs $225 million dollars. For all we know they could release the first episode next year but it only consists of 2 hours of content. We don’t really know where they are on SQ42 to be honest. So really I think we are still at least 5 years away from the PU. The past 2 years were spent polishing everything, making sure it worked from start to end, getting the feel of the game just right, and other detail work. I would imagine that in Oct 2016, 2 years before release, a lot of RDR2 was done. Fundamental things have not been implemented into the game as far as we know and CIG tends to show us things a lot time before they are ready for prime time.

Core game systems and technology are still in development. In my opinion we will still be no where near a PU release in 2020. A lot of people are throwing a 2020 release out for PU. Is there anyone with game development knowledge that can give a rough estimate of how far we are away from the PU going live? We know what they are working on, how the game works right now, so I feel like we should have an idea. Disregarding the comparisons between games and development times let’s just focus on Star Citizen and what we have right now.
